We cover sweeping, inspection and repair across Culver City, from the bungalow streets around Carlson Park to the hillside homes up in Blair Hills and Culver Crest.
Culver City grew up around the studios, and a lot of its housing dates to that era. The neighborhoods around downtown, Carlson Park and Sunkist Park are full of 1920s and 1930s Spanish Revival and Craftsman homes, tidy bungalows that have held their character for the better part of a century. Newer building sits alongside it, from mid-century blocks to the modern work around the Hayden Tract, but the older stock is what fills our schedule here.
Those original homes came with masonry chimneys and clay-tile flues, and a good number of them are now eighty or ninety years old with the original liner still in place. Clay does its job for a long time, but it does not last forever, and age is the main thing we are reading when we get a camera up a Culver City flue.
Most of the city is flat and easy to work, which keeps visits quick. The hillside pockets in Blair Hills and Culver Crest take a little more setup, and we plan the roof access rather than rush it.
All of it is available across the city, and every job opens with an inspection.
Where everything else begins. You get photos and a plain read on the chimney's condition.
Crowns, mortar, flashing and flue liners. The usual work on pre-war masonry stacks.
Flue cleared of creosote and soot, with the mess held in from start to finish.
New liners for the aging clay-tile flues common in the older bungalows here.
Caps and spark arrestors fitted right to keep rain, animals and embers where they belong.
Firebox, damper and hearth work on original and remodeled fireplaces.

We hired Chimney Brothers to repair and rebuild two masonry fireplaces, including firebox and smoke chamber work, and we had a great experience overall. Joseph was involved from start to finish and was consistently on site, not just managing from a distance. He took the time to explain what was going on, answered questions clearly, and made sure the work was done right. It was reassuring to see him present and actively involved while the crew was working. The team showed up when they said they would, worked carefully, and didn’t rush through the job. When I had questions or wanted to look at specific areas, Joseph was patient and responsive, and made sure everything we discussed was addressed before wrapping up. The final result looks solid and well done, and the whole process felt transparent and professional. I appreciate the hands-on approach and would feel comfortable recommending Chimney Brothers to anyone who needs serious fireplace or chimney repair.Posted on Google![]()

I had the opportunity to work with joseph From Chimney Brothers on one of my rental properties. A previous tenant left the property in a bad condition. I called a couple different companies come out and inspect my fireplace, a few of them seemed fishy. I also checked The chimney brothers license and bond certificates to ensure they didn’t have any ongoing lawsuits or a bad rep with the CSLB. Joseph came and installed for me glass doors, custom gas logs and purged my smoke chamber. The job was done in a very quick and professional manner. They didn’t leave any debris and I was super impressed. I would definitely recommend them!!! If I could give 10 stars I would. Great experience, and I truly found a trustworthy company that I’m sure I’ll use in my next properties.Posted on Google![]()

Chimney services always comes with lots skepticism; it's not a usual services like plumbing, and it's not a necessity. Selecting CB is a right call. Joseph is pleasant to work with; he appears knowledgeable, considerate and delivered as promised. We took his advices and went through major works. The result and process is satisfactory. Highly recommend.Posted on Yelp![]()

Joseph was awesome. He came out to inspect the chimney on our first home and was on time, friendly and super knowledgeable. He walked us through everything, explained why the chimney needed a cleaning, and pointed out that the galvanized chase cover should be replaced to help prevent future water damage. As first-time homeowners, we really appreciated how informative and thorough he was. He took the time to answer all of our questions and explain everything in a way that was easy to understand. We left feeling much more confident and would definitely recommend Joseph and The Chimney Brothers!Posted on Yelp![]()

Needed to clean our chimney for our 1 story home which had been neglected for about 13 years. Joseph came and did a efficient evaluation and quote for not just a cleaning but also for resurfacing. We opted for just the cleaning at this time. Joseph again came out and did a quick and clean job, no hassle. He was kind and easy to talk to. Will definitely call Chimney Brothers when we are ready for the resurfacing.Posted on Yelp![]()

Our rampart-styled-design chimney had significant cracking all over from top to bottom. Inquired for a estimate to repair the cracking. Received a very competitive quote from C.B and approved the job. Joseph and his team member came promptly and explained the process, answered all our questions, then immediately got to work. They are extremely professional that after cement was filled in cracks they were able to reproduce the same exact lines and texture of chimney. They are highly efficient. The tuck pointing, repainting, and cap installation was all done on the same day. The outstanding quality is very evident from before and after pics. I will not hesitate one bit to contact them for all my chimney needs. Extremely satisfied!! Thank you C.B.Posted on Yelp![]()

Chimney Brothers are fantastic! Joseph came out to our house for a consultation and about a week later was back to install a new gas system with ceramic logs that was 1,000 times better than the existing system. He was super professional, courteous and performed excellent, clean work. We are beyond thrilled with the results. Thank you guys!
Two things shape most of the chimney work in Culver City, and both come down to age and moisture. The first is the clay-tile liner. The neighborhood's Spanish and Craftsman homes were built with them, and on a house from the 1920s or 1930s that original liner has spent nearly a century heating and cooling. Clay handles that for a long time, then it starts to crack at the joints, and the only way to see it is a camera up the flue.
The second is the coast. Culver City sits close enough to the ocean that the marine layer rolls in most mornings, and that damp keeps masonry from ever fully drying between rains. Brick that stays a little wet spalls and blooms with white efflorescence sooner than dry inland brick, and crowns and mortar joints on these older stacks show it.
Put the two together and you get the pattern we see here: a charming old fireplace that has never been relined, on a chimney the damp has been working on quietly for decades. Neither problem announces itself, which is why an inspection on a house of this age is worth doing before anything else.
You can spot part of it from the ground. White chalky staining on the brick or dark damp patches near the base both point to moisture moving through the masonry, and that is a good reason to have it looked at.
Call for the quickest answer, or send the form higher up the page and we will come back to you the same day.
Usually the same week. We cover the Westside regularly, so a Culver City visit slots in without much wait. Call and we will give you the next open day.
Often, yes. Homes of that age usually still have their original clay-tile liner, and after nearly a century of use those liners crack at the joints where you cannot see it. On a house like yours we would want a camera up the flue before you burn much, so we know whether it is sound or due for relining.
It does. The marine layer keeps masonry damp, and brick that stays wet spalls and stains earlier than it would inland. If you are seeing white chalky staining or damp patches on the brick, that is moisture working through the masonry, and it is worth a look.
Usually yes. An unused flue still collects debris and nesting, and the crown, cap and mortar keep weathering whether you light a fire or not. On the older homes here, an occasional inspection is what keeps a small issue from turning into a relining job.
Once a year if you burn wood, before the first cold night. Even with light use, the annual visit is also when we catch an aging liner, a cracked crown or a rusting cap before it becomes a leak.
No. Everything gets covered before a tool comes out, and the vacuum runs the whole visit. You should not be able to tell we were there.
We look at it, you see the photos, then you get a written price. Call, or fill in the form above.
